The artist knows over time that the young green stem, so delicate and fragile, will merge with the wire, growing thicker, harder, darker and appearing decades older. While the trunk solidifies, new branches deviate in many directions—new growth finding new wires to follow, always climbing, bending and turning, opening up into the light.
